There are four divisions within the Public Works Department: Administration, Streets, Fleet, and Buildings. The Water Department is a enterprise fund and is budgeted as a seperate department.
Administration
The Administration oversees all of the divisions, capital improvement projects, street closure permits for maintenance of streets and sidewalks throughout the city, and handles any problems that may arise with other city, county, state, and federal departments.
Streets
The Street’s Division maintains the streets, travel corridors, and parks for the City. The street crew work long hours to ensure that all streets are plowed and safe during the wintertime. They have the sweepers out and keep the trash and debris pick-up to keep our City clean during the spring and summer months. Parks, flowers, and banner programs are administerd in the street division also.
Fleet Maintance
The Fleet Maintance Division maintain and service all of the City owned vehicles; from street plows to sweepers; to Fire Department, Police Department,County Ambulances, City buses. Our crew keeps all city vehicles in good repair for any occasion that may arise.
Buildings
The Building Division keeps all city buildings clean and in good repair. This crew is on the job from the changing of a light bulb, to a furnace on the blink, to a plumbing problem, to a door being removed or replaced, to a wall being built.
The Public Works Department takes a very active part in keeping our City of Black Hawk beautiful throughout the year. From the hanging of seasonal banners; to the displaying of flower baskets in the spring and summertime; to having yearly community spring clean-up days; to displaying of Christmas decorations. The full efforts from all of our crews in each division, tells the story of how we all work as a team and take pride in our City.
