On July 27^th, 2009 the City of Black Hawk became certified by the National Park Service as Colorado’s 44^th Certified Local Government (CLG).

With this designation in place, the operation of Ordinance No. 2009-13 becomes effective dissolving the Historic Architectural Review Commission (HARC) and creating the Historical Preservation Commission (HPC). At the August 18^th 2009 meeting, the commission elected Jim Johnson and Tom Greiner to the positions of Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Historical Preservation Commission.
