General Benefits Information:

Full-time employees cost share 10% of the medical premium, and the City provides 100% coverage cost for dental, vision, group life, and short/long term disability.

The City provides an excellent retirement package with a guaranteed 8% match of base earnings and up to a 12% match based on an employee’s retirement election.

Newly hired employees enjoy over seven weeks of combined annual leave (PTO and Sick), which increases with tenure.

Applicant is defined as those people who:

  • Have applied for a specific position or eligibility list for which the City of Black Hawk is acting to fill.
  • Meet the predefined, documented minimum requirements related to a specific, open position or eligibility list.
  • Apply for the position during the period that the applicant flow log remains open.
  • Comply with the City of Black Hawk's formal requirements and procedures.

Applicants for certain positions must successfully complete pre-employment skills tests. Conditional job offers are contingent on successful outcomes of post-offer background investigations, which may include but are not limited to, psychological examinations, physical examinations, and drug testing as conditions of employment.

You might be eligible for the Public Service (Student) Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program if you are employed by the City of Black Hawk!  

To qualify for PSLF you must: 

  • be employed by a U.S. federal, state, local, or tribal government or not-for-profit organizations;
  • work full-time for that agency or organization;
  • have Direct Loans (or consolidate other federal student loans into a Direct Loan);
  • repay your loans under an income-driven repayment plan; and
  • make 120 qualifying payments.
