Fire Protection & Life Safety Systems Testing and Inspection

The Compliance Engine logoThe Black Hawk Fire Department is dedicated to delivering compliance with our adopted Fire Code and NFPA standards. All service providers who inspect or test fire protection systems within Black Hawk’s jurisdiction are required to register and electronically submit all fire protection systems tests, inspections, and service reports via The Compliance Engine.

This web-based service aggregates, tracks, and streamlines the collection of compliance data of our jurisdiction’s systems. Property owners receive timely proactive notifications of their testing requirements, and the Black Hawk Fire Department has the ability to better mitigate the risk in our community by improving public safety to the public.

Fire Sprinkler/Fire Pump Testing and Fire Flow Test Permits

For sprinkler/fire pump testing that requires water flow and fire flow tests, please contact the Water Department to obtain a permit. 

Required System Reports

All reports must be submitted in accordance with the testing schedule and requirements outlined in our adopted Fire Code and meet requirements established in NFPA standards through The Compliance Engine.

Systems listed below are part of the International Fire Code (IFC) Standards for Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance of Fire Protection Systems to be provided to the City of Black Hawk Fire Department upon request and/or annual inspection.

The document listed below is required to be maintained onsite. This is supplied as only a guide to implementing your own fire safety programs and procedures. When complete, the plan is to be submitted to the Fire Marshal annually for compliance review.

Fire Inspections Defined

Annual Inspections: Commercial properties in the City of Black Hawk are required to undergo an annual fire and life safety inspection. Gaming establishments are inspected annual in accordance with 8 CCR 1507-57.

The City of Black Hawk Fire Marshal will schedule the annual inspection for commercial properties. Re-inspections will be conducted to confirm that violations noted in previous reports were corrected for conformance with applicable codes. Fees will be assessed based on the City's Fee Schedule. Please review the information above regarding inspection preparation and required systems reports.

Compliance Inspections: For the safety of our community, regular compliance inspections occur.

Residential Fire Safety Inspections: Residential fire safety inspections can be requested of the Fire Department. These are voluntary for the fire and life safety of our residents and there is no fee.

Special Events: Special Event Permits are accepted through the City Clerk's office. The Fire Department will be part of the review, approval, and inspection process. Questions can be directed to the Fire Marshal.
