Investigations Unit
The Black Hawk Police Department Investigations Unit is comprised of two (2) Detectives in rotating assignments. The detectives conduct follow-up investigations on felony and misdemeanor cases, including fraud, assault, theft, domestic violence, auto theft, vehicle break-ins, and other criminal offenses. The detectives also collaborate on complex or multi-jurisdictional cases with the Gilpin County Sheriff's Department, Colorado State Patrol, Colorado Bureau of Investigation, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the U.S. Secret Service. Criminal charges are generally filed in either the Black Hawk Municipal Court or the Gilpin County Combined Court. The District Attorney's Office in Jefferson County handles county cases for Jefferson County and Gilpin County.
